Further Development

I further developed my designs considering use of typeface as i had stuck with a bold typeface throughout. I thought the appropriate choice of typeface would give the titles of the book a bit more personality. I felt the bottom set of books with a simple logo was working the best as it didn't look as over-powering as the other ones and also this would work well with the patterned inside cover.

Below are the typefaces i chose for the titles:

Why i chose them:
1. The History of Mr Polly - I chose a rounded font [no it isnt comix sans! for those who are thinking it is!] because to me mr polly is a normal man facing all these real life problems which life has thrown at him but still he carries on. I decided to type in lower case to show that he is just a normal person as i feel capital letters may give the title a bit more authority and this is something i didn't want.

2. Tono Bungay - For this title i chose the original bold font i was working with as i felt for someone to be messing around with chemicals and radioactive stuff, they have to be confident with what they are doing and it is also something very serious if it goes wrong. Another reason for this font choice is because i feel warning signs are usually big and bold to warm people so this is something i want to communicate through the choice of my typeface.

3. Love and Mr Lewisham - I chose a script font for this title. I felt it worked well with the word as the typeface is expressing the word 'love'. As its a script font aswell it is quiet flowy and easy to ready and it makes you say it really softly. When the Tono Bungay title makes you say it quiet strongly as it uses capitals and it is a bold typeface.

Using my concepts about on how i have chosen the appropriate typeface to match each title i will look look at futher possible typefaces which would would equally as well or better than the fonts i have chosen..

..So i looked at other fonts which i thought could have potential.

After doing this i chose 2 fonts for each title which could work. Here were my choices..the top 3 fonts were my original chosen fonts.

1. Mr Polly - i like the length of the ascender and descenders on the first font as it gives it character and it also looks like a very contemporary font to my original font i chose. The font below i chose because i liked the little arms on the end of each letter. I thought this gave the font character, it was informal and it worked however this is a very light font and the colour/paper stock i choose may over power it and it may not work as well. So for Mr Polly i have chosen to use the font below.

2. Tono Bungay - I thought the first font was interesting as it has triangular bits on the end of each letter. I thought this could work as it could represent the triangle which some warning signs come in. The font below works the best as it is bold and uses this rounded square shape as the base around the type design. I felt my original choice looked a bit standard and this was more interesting. Here is the typeface i have chosen for Tono.

3. Love and Mr Lewisham - I thought the two typefaces i had picked out from the others were the best because they were soft and were read really softly, but im not sure weather they are as strong as the original font. I developed the second font by trasforming the arms of the font into little hearts.

After doing this i still feel the script font works better is it flows really well and it also elaborates on the work love better than the other fonts too. So my final chosen font for love is:
