HG Wells font choice

Right at the beginning of this brief, i chose fonts which i thought were contemporary and would give the covers a contemporary look. I did mention that no decisions could be made until the designs were well on their way. Here are a few ideas which i have developed from the original HG Wells title i made for my mock ups. I have reduced the 'a novel by' and also got rid of the line and tried them with different typefaces. I feel the name of the author need to be bold as these books are something the author is proud of as these are his books!

Out of the typefaces above i feel the bottom three work the best as they are simple typefaces, bold and not too overpowering.

Decision time.
I have chosen to use becuase i felt the condensed bold font worked well and i felt the other two fonts were too bold and used a too tradtional serif font. I don't however like the 'a novel by' on the top of this design. The font is Century Gothic, I feel it is too round and big, maybe i need to reduce it or use another font?

Development- i changed the font at the top and i decided to bring a thicker line above and below the authors name as i felt this drew attention to the name and it also worked well.

My final chosen HG Wells title is this one because i felt the typeface was not too bold and overpowering and the line drew attention to the authors name which i thought was important.
